It's time for another Throwback Thursday topic. Today, we take it back to one of the best Tejano popurris of all-time, at least in my opinion. This popurri was on the 1989 album entitled "Que Le Vas a Dar" that was released under the Freddie Records Label. My grandma had the album and remembers jamming this at family parties.

The 1989 lineup of Jaime Y Los Chamacos was elite.

The track is peak Jaime Y Los Chamacos energy and sound. The band's lineup featured all monster musicians.  Jaime De Anda, accordion and vocals. Juan P Moreno, bajo sexto and vocals. Eduardo "Chato" Ordonez, bass and vocals. and Manual Alvardo on the drums.
The Popurri is 13 minutes and 59 seconds and features six songs:
  • Dame Un Poco De Ti
  • El Borrachito
  • Y Dicen
  • Corbardemente
  • Anoche Sone
  • Sal Y Pimenta (Polka)

Manual is an underappreciated drummer in the industry.

This group has amazing chemistry while performing on stage, too. I personally feel that Manuel Alvarado is an underappreciated drummer of the industry. When he recorded this album, he was doing things that had never been done for Conjunto music.  Currently, Jaime De Anda and Los Chamacos are performing separately.

Jaime Y Los Chamacos was the reason I bought an accordion.

Side note: I saw Jaime Y Los Chamacos perform at the Club Westerner in Victoria in around 1995. It was after this show that I got an accordion to learn how to play like Jaime DeAnda.  Check out this picture I took with the group back in 2011 at Club Movida.
The drummer in this picture is Ruben Mendoza and is an absolute beast on the kit. He is currently performing with the 181 Boyz and Jesse Perez Y Sus Compadres.
